Mud is Mood

Tell us a bit about yourself. What is your background?

My name is Cristina, I am an architect and a product designer, specialized in ceramic design.  With a background in architecture and interior design, in 2016 I decided to start with my own brand of  home accessories, Mud is Mood. After a special meeting with Nicola Boccini, international artist and clay technologist, I decided to start working with clay, and it was “love at the first sight”.  For the first time my ideas came out of the pencil and became concrete shapes. Ceramic passion was born together with MIM project, its moldable and primordial nature, the possibility of developing infinite shapes that’s what fascinate me the most.  I make my pieces in small batches and entirely by hand, striking a balance between the tradition of my territory, Umbria, and the way I feel about the objects that I design. I work from my house and creative studio in Umbria's countryside.

Where does your passion for design come from?

Since I was a young girl I was fascinated by creativity: fantasy books, arts, architecture, and drawing. So I decided to study Architecture; but it was after my studies that I discover the world of design. I was in Milan for the first time visiting Milano Design Week, I was surrounded by all this beautiful things and fascinated especially by designed small objects. In that moment I decided it was it that I want to do.

What inspires you?

I draw my inspiration from the harmonious interaction between shapes, colors, and human moods. I think that soothing colors and pure shape can have a positive influence on the mood of people, and this is at the basis of  Mud is Mood concept: to create emotions that can make people feel good.
Another huge part of my inspiration and creativity starts from the study of shape. Each product that I design must give rise to people’s curiosity, for that reason all Mud is Mood collections are made of playful, stackable and multifunctional objects.

What are your 3 favourite things?

My three favourite things: to travel, my family and to live in a house surrounded by nature.
