Tell us a little bit about yourselves. What is your background?

My name is Victoria Gilles Fernández, I'm from Buenos Aires,
Argentina, now based in Manchester, UK.

I worked as a graphic designer for many years, and I also did a postgraduate degree in Design Theory. For me, it felt like a breakthrough: from that
moment, my understanding of design changed radically, and I'm sure
it was a fundamental point in the development of my work as a
ceramicist.
Now, I work full time in my brand, which involves lots of making
with clay, glazing and painting, and lots of graphic design,
programming, photography and marketing as well. So, I'm thankful for
my previous experience in advertising, publishing and web design.

Where does your passion for design come from?

I guess I've always felt the need for arranging things is the most
beautiful yet functional way. As a child building tent houses under
the table or then dabbling in photography, I've always felt that
composition is what makes things make sense. I'm passionate about
the transformative power of design and how it can improve and
nourish people's lives at so many levels.

What inspires you?

Colour! I love vibrant colours because, for me, they have a voice of
their own, they can't be unseen. I use colour and patterns as a way
to highlight form, my inspiration comes from art history, heritage
and the need to reconnect with nature and rituals. I'm interested in
bringing a bit of my own culture and vision of the world while
adding joy to each space.

What are your 3 favourite things?

Music (and album cover artworks), wet clay (just taken out of the
bag) and a good pizza!
